Quallaby and Gambit Communications form partnership to model service provider networks

Companies partner to speed deployment of service assurance solution

Lowell, MA and Nashua, NH—December 11, 2000—Quallaby Corporation, the leading provider of network performance management solutions for service providers, and Gambit Communications, the leading provider of SNMP-based network management tools, announced today they have formed a technology partnership to share information with respect to modeling service provider networks in order to improve the rollout of performance monitoring in large, multi-vendor network environments.

Quallaby and Gambit share a common strength in their mutual focus on networking scalability. PROVISO performance monitoring software from Quallaby is architected expressly for very large and growing service provider networks and needs to demonstrate flexibility and multi-vendor support to its customers. MIMIC™ Simulator from Gambit is best-in-class software for simulating multi-vendor networks on a very large scale and can streamline the test environment for PROVISO thereby enhancing reliability and validating performance numbers.

“Quallaby does not just pay lip service to service provider requirements,” said Steve Broadhead, director of the NSS Group, the highly respected independent testing lab based Europe that just published a report on PROVISO. “I have seen Quallaby’s lab in action populated with thousands of MIMIC simulated devices, and PROVISO truly is designed to support extremely large, global networks.”

MIMIC helps to create a virtual lab populated with devices like routers, hubs, switches, probes, workstations, and more. In addition to providing hundreds of thousands of simulated devices for scalability testing, MIMIC resource simulation tool can easily record service providers’ networks, bringing that environment directly to the lab.  Thus, service provider prospects and customers can see how PROVISO will run on their exact network configuration – assuring them that PROVISO will meet their needs.  Service providers can also build simulated future configurations and test drive PROVISO against them – assuring their growth will be accommodated and eliminating guesswork.

“MIMIC is important to everything we do,” said Bob Garvey, Quallaby director of Application Pack product management. “It enables us to immediately incorporate support for many hardware devices, often while they're still in beta. Not only does MIMIC simulate the device, but it also simulates loads of traffic just like a busy, service provider network. The combination of MIMIC and PROVISO enables NSPs to rapidly roll out new services knowing that they have a tested and proven service assurance solution.”

“Service providers deal with huge amounts of equipment and customer liability as well,” said Pankaj Shah, Gambit Communication’s VP of Marketing.  “By focusing so strongly on service provider requirements, Quallaby is a good match for MIMIC. MIMIC helps Quallaby assure those providers that they are choosing a performance management tool that will meet their needs now and well into the future.”
